published on April 8th, 2008 . by Markus - Add a Comment

Many of you may in the past have been using your Outlook Express account to send and/or receive email from your hotmail account, but recently may have been having problems or errors when you try to do so.

You may have received this error;

  • Unknown Error

When you click Details on this error you would have received the following details;

  • HTTPMAIL: 10:09:18 [rx]
  • HTTP/1.1 402 Access to Hotmail via Outlook & Outlook Express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://join.msn.com/hotmailplus/overview

Although if you are running a computer with Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 you may have recieved these errors;

  • Could not connect to Hotmail as username@hotmail.com
  • Hotmail no longer allows email access via Outlook Express for free Hotmail/MSN accounts

The reason you will get either of these two errors when you try to access hotmail from your Outlook Express account is simply as the last error says, you can no longer access hotmail from your Outlook account using a free Hotmail account.

If you want an easy fix to this problem you can just get a paid hotmail account, or if you don’t want to do that you can do the follow to solve your problem.

Outlook Express

To use any web based email service with your Outlook Express you need to install Windows Live Mail on your computer. Windows Live Mail is a Microsoft program that lets you access, read, and compose e-mail messages even when you are not connected to the Internet. Whenever you do access the internet it automatically updates your email from any of the popular web based email accounts including hotmail.

Windows Media Player Error: C00D119A

published on April 3rd, 2008 . by Markus - Add a Comment

If there is one thing I get really frustrated over on my computer is when my windows media player won’t play a video because of some error. This happened to me the other day when I got a C00D119A error, so today I thought I’d talk about what this annoying error is and how to resolve it.

You will get a C00D119A error when a required codec is not installed on your computer, a codec is software that the Player uses to decompress a file before playing it. In most cases your media player will automatically download the codec so that all clips can be played, but occasionally it does not.

The reason your computer would not automatically download the codec is that the security levels on your machine are so high that it just cannot download it. So to fix this problem you must adjust your internet security settings to allow codecs to be downloaded. To do this follow these steps or watch this clip;

  • Click on your Control Panel
  • Click Internet Options
  • Click the Security tab
  • In the Security level for this zone area, click medium Level
  • Click Apply
  • Click OK

For many people there is nothing more frustrating than getting errors in their Outlook/Outlook Express. I have talked to people who have taken an hour to do a simple 2 minute email just because they kept receiving Outlook errors.

Generally Outlook errors are fairly simple things to fix so I will begin over the next few weeks to write some posts that will assist you if you are having trouble with Outlook errors. Today I will talk about a simple fix you can do if you ever receive a time-out error message.

Sometimes when you receive an error message in Outlook (something like 0×80040900) you may also receive a message beside it that says time-out error message. You may be able to totally fix this problem by increasing the server time-out setting, just follow these points below to resolve this problem;

Outlook 2000 (CW)

  • Go to the Tools menu, click Services
  • In the Services tab, select Internet E-mail
  • Click Properties
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Gradually increase the server time-out setting until the problem is resolved

Outlook 2000 (IMO)

  • Go to the Tools menu, click Accounts
  • Select the target account
  • Click Properties
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Gradually keep increasing the server time-out setting until the problem is resolved

Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003

  • Go to the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts
  • Click View or change existing e-mail accounts
  • Click Next
  • Click your POP3 account
  • Click Change
  • Click More Settings
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Gradually increase the server time-out setting until the issue is resolved.

Outlook 2007

  • Go to the Tools menu, click Account Settings
  • Click to select the target POP3 account
  • Click Change
  • Click More Settings
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • You must now gradually increase the server time-out setting until the issue is fixed

Outlook Express 5.x and 6.0

  • Go to the Tools menu, click Accounts
  • Click the Mail tab
  • Click your POP3 account
  • Click Properties
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • You must now gradually increase the server time-out setting until the problem is fixed

If you cannot fix the problem then you need to download this software to fix your Outlook problem - Click Here to Download RegCure

Here is a quick screenshot of the advanced tab in Outlook 2007 where you can alter the time-out settings;

Run Command in Windows Vista

published on April 1st, 2008 . by Markus - Add a Comment

If you are familiar with Windows XP then you have no doubt used the Run command many times. This was easily accessible via: Start -> Run.

However, things are slightly different in Windows Vista. But in this case they are possibly better. Accessing the Run command in Vista is very simple. You just type the command you want to run in the quick search box. The quick search box is found just under All Programs. See the screenshot below.

The Vista quick search box serves a dual purpose. It can obviously be used for searching as well as invoking commands. It will also auto-complete command names which is a pretty handy feature to have.
