Update Audio Drivers

published on September 1st, 2009 . by Markus - Add a Comment

Audio drivers are a common failing point and can easily fall out-of-date.

Luckily there is a very easy way to update audio drivers without wasting any time.  Previously we had to search around manufacturer websites for hours looking for the correct driver.  If you have ever visited a driver manufacturer website, you probably know how hard they make it to find anything. The search functions never work either.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, you can now update your audio drivers in less than a minute with software such as Driver Detective, Driver Genius and Driver Updater. These are all great programs and they will update all of your system drivers, it is not limited to just audio drivers.

These programs also support all of the major manufacturers, so don’t worry about having an old or less popular driver. If an update for it exists, this software will find it.

Uninstaller

published on May 20th, 2009 . by Markus - Add a Comment

Quite often we get asked how to remove those annoying programs.

Well the first step is to try and remove these programs via the Windows installer. Of course this does not always work. In Control Panel, there is an option called “Add or Remove Programs”. This should be the first thing to try.

Now if that doesn’t work it can be difficult. Many programs leave remnants or have missing uninstall files and then can never be uninstalled. This clutters your PC and is also very annoying.

The best option in such situations is to use something like Perfect Uninstaller. This program has the ability to remove anything. No matter how hard it might be to uninstall, this product can handle it. It uses advanced registry editing and cleanup tools to fully remove any program that you don’t want.

So if you have something that won’t uninstall, give this a try. It is free to download.

Intel Closing Some Plants

published on January 22nd, 2009 . by Markus - Add a Comment

With more bad economic news, it has been reported that Intel will be closing some plants. The closure of these plants could affect hundreds of jobs.

The plants are test facilities in Phillipines and Malaysia where 200mm production took place. A local plant in Santa Clara may also be shut down.

This is more bad news for the computing industry, but is to be expected until we break out of the recession.

Next Generation SD Cards

published on January 8th, 2009 . by Markus - Add a Comment

SD cards have long been the standard for digital cameras. However, with the increasing megapixels and image size in these cameras, the limits of SD cards are being felt.

So the next generation of SD cards are on the way. These are called SDXC – the XC stands for extended capacity. These cards will be able to store up to a massive 2TB, which is pretty impressive. That is storage enough for something like 100 HD movies or 60 hours of HD recording. So you won’t need to constantly change cards anymore when doing alot of photo/video work.

You can expect to see the SDXC cards very soon.

Apple Down, Windows Up

published on December 17th, 2008 . by Markus - Add a Comment

According to retail statistics, the sales of Apple Macs has slightly dropped from 1 year earlier. However, the sale of Windows PCs has risen by about 7 %.

So based on these stats, are people finally realizing that Macs suck? (just kidding). What it probably relates to is the price point of each product. Windows PCs are quite a bit cheaper that Macs. Based on the current economic problems, most people are probably looking for the more cost effective solution.

Whatever the case may be, the release of Windows 7 next year, could help further increase the percentage of sales for Windows PCs.

Change the Date Format in Thunderbird

published on December 5th, 2008 . by Markus - Add a Comment

Are you using Thunderbird, but not happy with the current date format. You might be located somewhere that uses the dd/mm/yyyy format, or alternatively you might want to switch to the mm/dd/yyyy format.

Well this setting is not actually set in Thunderbird, it is part of the operating system itself. So Thunderbird is just displaying the date values, based on whatever you currently have setup in your OS. So to change the date format display in Thunderbird, you need to change your OS settings.

Example: To do this in Windows XP

Open Control Panel -> Language and Regional Settings
Click the “Customize” button
Change the Short date format to your preferred format
Done!

Windows Vista SP2 Coming Soon

published on November 25th, 2008 . by Markus - Add a Comment

As you all know, the Windows Vista SP2 has been under development and Microsoft are working hard to get this out asap. The first dev version has even shipped out to some testers and can be downloaded too.

SP2 for Vista should have a release candidate out sometime in February 2009.  This is just about a year after the release of service pack 1. The finalised release should be sometime in April 2009 (if everything goes to plan)

Many of the changes in SP2 will be under the hood stuff, so users wont notice a great deal of changes.

With Windows 7 coming out soon, will anyone really care about the Vista SP2?

Need to Recover Lost Photos?

published on November 20th, 2008 . by Markus - Add a Comment

If you need to recover lost photos, images or videos then you need not worry any longer.

There is a great new product that does exactly that. It recovers lost, corrupt and even missing photos from virtually any type of digital camera. It also has the capability to recover photos from hard drives, flash drives and pretty much any other type of media device.

The formats you can recover are not just limited to the typical image files (eg: gif, jpg, tiff, bmp). This product also recovers video files and sound files. So no matter what you have captured through your digital camera, it can be recovered (if necessary). Even if the SD card or flash drive has corrupted the files, there is still hope.

This product is called Stellar Photo Recovery and has become very popular for recovering data. Most of us have lost some important photos at one time or another, and with digital cameras it is all too easy to just press one button and lose data. It is also very common for image files to become corrupt due to the storage media they are on, so this is yet another reason for having this product on hand.

Try the free download below. It will allow you to recover files from any media device and you can specify which type of files to locate. It’s very easy to use.

published on November 19th, 2008 . by Markus - Add a Comment

Have you ever visited a website and wanted just a bit of content from the page, but ended up printing the whole web page?

Well most users are not aware that they can actually print off just a selection of text. So instead they end up wasting tons of paper printing a whole web site when they could have just printed off the part they needed.

OK, so here is how you can print off a selection of text from a web page.

  • Select the text you want to print, by clicking the mouse and highlighting the text.
  • Right-click on the selected text and choose “Print”
  • On the print dialog, under “Page Range”, check the option called “Selection”

That will just print off your selected text. Now you can save paper and save time!
